Karen Wood

Dallas based portrait photographer Karen Wood (Karen Laine Photography) began to fall in love with photography as a young “only” child, snapping photos with her Kodak 110 on solitary walks around her neighborhood. As an adult, her love affair with the power of visual storytelling continued as she chronicled the lives of her seven children. Once the younger children advanced to the teen years, she began doing small portrait “jobs” for her kids’ senior classes on her Canon 20D and eventually began photographing high school seniors for friends, receiving small gifts of appreciation in return for her work. In 2011 she decided to pursue photography as a career and began taking wedding and portrait clients, and she even spent three seasons photographing action sports for the Reno Bighorns DNBA team. She has honed her skills over the years through portrait, documentary, and wedding work both on location and in the studio, before settling into her great love of newborn portraiture. She currently specializes in newborn, maternity, and business portrait work and in 2021 began to earnestly explore and dig into fine art portraiture. What she loves most about portrait photography is its power to create a sense of connection and belonging and its ability to empower the subject by instilling confidence. Through a portrait, a person is seen and known, and Karen would argue, even heard. Karen’s work has been published in the sports section of the New York Times and can occasionally be seen in local magazines of the Dallas area. Karen holds an A.A.S degree with honors, and a QNP endorsement with APNPI (Association of Professional Newborn Photographers International, and is an active member of PPA, TPPA, and DPPA. She has a passion for seeing others succeed in their business and for helping new photographers grow their skills. Karen currently lives in a bedroom community outside the Dallas greater metroplex with her husband, youngest daughter, and four dogs.
